 Students receive ongoing instruction regarding the sacraments throughout the RE curriculum so it is important that children participate in all grade levels of the Religious Education Program.
Formal preparation for the celebration of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist for baptized children who have been participating in a Religious Education Program for at least one year (at St. Mary’s or transferring from another program), or have been enrolled in Catholic school, occurs in 2nd Grade. Preparation for these sacraments includes a family centered program.

Parents/guardians of baptized children entering St. Mary’s Religious Education program in 3rd Grade or higher who have not celebrated the sacraments of Eucharist and/or Reconciliation will meet with the DRE to determine the appropriate method of formation for their child.
St. Mary’s Parish recognizes the rights and responsibilities of parents as the primary religious educators of their children. Parents, in consultation with the Pastor, the DRE and the catechists, determine the readiness of their child to celebrate a sacrament.
