Preparation to Celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation – all the children of our parish, whether they attend public or secular schools or are enrolled in our parish school, Pope John XXIII, come together with their families for formation, which is a family-centered process. 2nd Grade is the usual age to prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation & First Eucharist.

Parents/guardians of baptized children entering St. Mary's Religious Education program in 3rd Grade or higher who have not celebrated these sacraments will meet with the Director of the Religious Education Program to determine the appropriate method to integrate them into the process.

Policies

  • St. Mary’s recognizes the rights and responsibilities of parents as the primary religious educators of their children. Parents, in consultation with the Pastor and the Director of the Religious Education Program, determine the readiness of their child to celebrate a sacrament.
  • St. Mary's follows the teaching of the Church and the articles of Canon Law that state a child should come to celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation before they come to the celebration of the sacrament of Eucharist for the first time.
