Role of the Council The Council is a consultative body to the Pastor and assists him in realizing the mission of the Parish. The Council is one means of shaping an ever more Christ-like Church by growing with each other as we share our faith, our collective wisdom, our needs, our charity and our hopes. The Council arrives at suggestions and recommendations through a consultative model characterized by consensus and discernment, rather than giving advise or taking majority votes on issues being considered. As such, the Pastor is a vital and integral part of the consensus process and will provide input into it. If the pastor cannot support the issue being considered, it is expected that he will communicate this and his rationale to the Council early in the deliberation process. Any course of action recommended by the Council must be approved by the Pastor. The Council's focus is on the mission and ministries of the Parish, and not on its day-to-day administration. |
