Next Young At Heart Meeting

The next meeting of the St. Mary Young-at-Heart Group will be in March 10, 2011. Linda Balla and Lois Hebert will be our two hostesses for the day. They ask everyone to bring and share an Irish joke, song, item, whatever... because, being March, the theme will be Ireland. Come join our happy camaraderie!!!

We meet in the Parish Center Dining Room at 12 Noon. Bring your brown bag lunch. Dessert and beverage will be served. All are welcome!

Come and spend an afternoon of delightful conversations and perhaps a game of Bingo or Bunco.

New members are always welcome. Only requirement is: you are age 50+.

Young At Heart is a parish social group which meets regularly to provide a social connection to its members.

The members of St. Mary's Young At Heart Club would like to meet other seniors, 55 and over. It’s an opportunity for you to meet new people and for the members to meet you. Don’t miss out on having a fun time.

Call Eileen Temmerier at (847) 328-6449 for more information.

What is Y.A.H.?

A lot of water has gone under the bridge since our first meeting in 1977. The Young at Heart (Y.A.H.) has gained and lost many members. May they rest in peace.

Now let me explain our group to you. We are a social group for Youngsters 55 and over. Being social is our aim. No fundraisers. We meet once a month - second Thursday of each month - in the Parish Center from 12 Noon until ?? We bring our own brown bag lunch; a beverage and a dessert is provided for a small fee of $1.00. When we collect enough $1.00’s, we serve a free lunch to our members. You can’t beat that, can you? We are always looking for new ideas or program suggestions. Guest speakers or book reports are expensive. Need I say more? We just make our own fun playing games like “help your neighbor,” “bunco,” “bingo,” or “R.C.L.” Lots of friendly camaraderie. The principal of Pope John XXIII School, Rosalie Musiala, and her group has invited us to lunch, with front row seats to their spring school program. That, we sure enjoy. Remembering our school days of LONG, LONG ago.

We have had guest speakers from the Evanston Health Department, police department and fire department. Father Tony and his program were very interesting. Father Greg takes time out of his busy day to come and visit us on meeting days. You will find many of our members volunteering around the parish, such as helping with the yearly Thanksgiving dinners, folding and stamping Xmas and Easter letters or the newsletter, quilting, counting the Sunday contribution, Saint Pat’s Party, Block Party, stuffing the Sunday bulletin with late or extra insert, putting up and taking down the Parish Center’s Xmas tree. So you see, we are not an “old stick in the mud” group. We MOVE and are happy to help the staff wherever needed.

If you take a look at the new stove in the Parish Center, we, the Y.A.H.’s, made that possible, and we’re proud of it.

After our Xmas party in December, we hibernate for January and February due to the bad weather. But come March, our door will open again to all.

Be a Y.A.H., “Young at Heart”. ALL WELCOME!!!

- Eileen Temmerier, President
