St. Mary's Pastoral Council Purpose and Procedures

The name of this organization is the St. Mary's Pastoral Council (hereafter referred to as the ("Council").

Mission Statement:

St. Mary's pastoral Council is a leadership body called to work in collaboration with our Pastor and staff to respond to the significant needs of our Parish Community. Guided by prayer and God's Word, we will endeavor to affirm, serve and represent the faith community of St. Mary's through its various ministries and commissions. We welcome and encourage all ideas and programs that will help to create a caring community in which we can grow in faith and love, and through living and proclaiming the Gospel message, experience the promise of abundant life.

The Council exercises shared responsibility for the Pastoral life of the Parish under the leadership of the Pastor. The primary purpose of Council is to prayerfully engage the parishioners and the Pastor in reflecting the parish's mission and ministry and plan for and evaluate both in a manner consistent with the Gospel and teachings of the Catholic Church.

Specifically, the Council assumes responsibility for (1) determination of the needs of the parish community, taking into account the ideas, hopes and aspiration of the parishioners, (2) encouragement and support of the Human Concerns/Outreach, Education, Parish Life and Spiritual Life ministries, (3) evaluation of the quality of life of the parish faith community, and (4) planning for the future of the Parish by recommending policies, procedures, and programs that will ensure realization of its values, needs and desires to fulfill the Church's mission.
